Molasses Caramel Sauce
This simple caramel sauce can make an ordinary dessert extraordinary. Pour over plain store-bought cheese cake, simple gingerbread or ice cream.

- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp. Crosby’s Fancy Molasses
- 1 cup plus 3 tbsp. 35% cream (whipping cream)
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla
Instructions
- Over medium heat, melt the butter, brown sugar and molasses in a heavy bottom medium size pot. (The pot needs to be tall enough to allow for foaming.)
- When the mixture is incorporated, slowly add the cream.
- Boil for 5 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla.
Notes
Will last two weeks in the fridge.
Reheat gently.

Hi Nancy, I have never tried to freeze the sauce so am not sure what would happen. It will last in the fridge for a few weeks though.

Bridget, I was watching your video on baked beans in the Instant Pot, I have one and I bought a 2 lb bag of Soldier Beans and would like to do them in there…now you didn’t give the amounts of ingred..for the sauce…how much of each ingred. would be nice to have, they look so good…I want to try this recipe…and I usually love onions in my recipe but what’s the reason for the apple in it for.. and would the apple break down and go to mush in the sauce or stay in chucks..love to try this can you help me out..I’m a vegetarian and love beans for my protein..thank you Jean.

Hi Chris, Yes the caramel sauce can be made ahead and will last in the fridge for a good week. Just warm it over low heat before using.
